Investigation of failure of carbon heat-shielding material under conditions of flight in dusty atmosphere
A study is made into the resistance of the frontal surface of a hypersonic flying vehicle under conditions of horizontal flight in a dusty atmosphere with a velocity of $\mathrm{M}=8$. The results of experimental investigations of thermal-erosion resistance of a carbon–carbon heat-shielding material in a supersonic heterogeneous flow, obtained in a ground high-temperature gasdynamic stand, are used. The results are compared with the behavior of fiberglass plastic under analogous conditions.
