An algebraic model of turbulence for flows with a maximum of tangential stress inside the boundary layer
Annotation
The two-layer Klauser scheme of turbulent boundary layer is used to construct a new algebraic model of turbulence for a fairly wide class of flows characterized by the presence of a maximum of tangential stress inside the layer. A distinguishing feature of the model is the method of determination of the velocity scale of turbulence in the outer region of the boundary layer, based on the use of the Bradshow–Ferriss–Atwell (BFA) equation for turbulent stresses. This provides the possibility of taking into account the effect on the scale of both the external factors (longitudinal pressure gradient, injection, suction, transverse curvature of the surface) and the basic mechanisms of transport of turbulent tangential stresses (convection, diffusion, generation, and dissipation). In the final analysis, this defines the rather wide capabilities of the model confirmed by the results of its testing on the basis of experimental data for boundary layers with a positive differential pressure, injection, and transverse curvature of the surface.
