Modeling heat transfer during the flow of a hot gas past recesses in a shock tube
An experimental study is made of heat transfer during the laminar flow of shockcompressed argon past recesses in the wall of a shock tube. It is shown that shock tubes can be used to model heat transfer during the steady flow of hot, fast-moving gases past recesses. Methodological problems that must be analyzed in the course of setting up specific experiments are also discussed. Data is obtained on the distribution of pressure and heat flux along the bottom of rectangular recesses for laminar subsonic and supersonic flows of shock-heated argon with shock-wave velocities of $1.5$–$6$ km/sec and temperature factors up to $0.02$.
