Analysis of the experimental possibility of forming a conducting channel in the atmosphere using ultraviolet radiation of pulsed discharge
Preliminary experimental investigations are performed of photoionization of air by directed flux of ultraviolet radiation (UVR) generated by a compact pulsed discharge. The plasma temperature of discharge is estimated by the basic characteristics of this discharge, and the electron concentration and current in the conducting channel are measured. It is demonstrated that the optical system of focusing of radiation must be significantly improved for attaining the required levels of electron concentration and current in the channel.
