Thermodynamic properties of borides of transition metals
Annotation
This article generalizes and analyzes results of systematic experimental studies of the heat capacity and enthalpy of borides of metals of groups $\rm IV$–$\rm VI$ of the periodic system. The laws governing the change in these characteristics are established in relation to the position of the boride-forming metal in the periodic system and the boron content for compounds of a given metal. An empirical equation is obtained and used as a basis for calculation of the temperature dependence of enthalpy in the temperature range $400$–$2200$ K for $19$ experimentally studied borides of transition metals. Possible components of the high-temperature heat capacity of the borides are analyzed. The coefficients of isothermal compressibility of the experimentally studied borides are evaluated.
