The nature of “gas” burnout
Previously, experiments of the Kurchatov Institute, Institute of Physics and Power Engineering, and the Research and Development Institute of Power Engineering revealed that under certain conditions the presence of a large amount of dissolved gas in water decreases the critical density of heat flux in the boiling zone of subcooled water (surface boiling). Model experiments, which were conducted at the Joint Institute for High Temperatures, Russian Academy of Sciences, and accompanied with the high-speed filming of the process, verified these observations and made it possible to conclude about the mechanism and conditions of the realization of the given phenomenon.
